Joel and Ethan Coen are known for doing movies that may be considered less than conventional. In A Serious Man they throw "conventional" to the wind as they follow Larry Gopnik, an unassuming Jewish professor, as his life slowly melts in front of his eyes. His wife leaves him, his goy neighbor is infringing on his space, his children are a mess and he's dealing with a crazy Korean student intent on buying his way into a better grade.
