Fantastic movie from director Brian De Palma (Body Heat, The Untouchables) about a Cuban immigrant who rises in the Miami drug trade only to see everything crumble in the end. To call it a remake of the 1930's version doesn't mean much, since they pretty much only share the name. Very violent, lots of drugs, and at the time, Scarface held the record for the number of times "fuck" was said in a movie.

Paul Newman reprises his role from the classic film The Hustler as pool hall king "Fast Eddie" Felson, lured back to the table when he serves as mentor to a cocky kid that has real talent on the felt. A young Tom Cruise holds his own against Newman, but the elder statesman of cinema took home the Oscar for his return to the character of Felson. Not to be outdone is the beautiful and sassy Mary Elizabeth Mastrantonio as Cruise's girlfriend who doesn't want to see her man go down the same road as Felson. Newman and Mastrantonio sizzle in their scenes together, as much due to the charisma of the then 60 year-old actor as the impossibly toned and saucy actress.

As directed by Martin Scorsese, this is an energetic and completely different movie from The Hustler that is sure to entertain both those who are fans of the original as well as newcomers to the world of "Fast Eddie" Felson. While there's no Minnesota Fats as a stand-out supporting character, viewing The Color of Money will leave you surprised with the number of name talents in supporting roles including John Tuttoro, Forest Whitaker and Iggy Pop.

Taut drama and an excellent cast (Ed Harris, Mary Elizabeth Mastrantonio) are completely betrayed by one of the worst endings in cinematic history. It's right up there with the ending of A.I.. But until then it's a great thriller.
