Nude Celebs: Sandra Beall - Somewhere between Rocky and The Karate Kid, director John G. Avildsen abandoned his overcome-the-odds formula for success and instead tackled this curious blip on the cinematic radar about a married community college professor (Lesley Ann Warren) that gets caught-up in an affair with one of her students who is also a dancer at a strip club called “Heaven.” Rocky this isn’t.

More than anything else this movie is about the 80’s. 80’s hair, 80’s fashion and 80’s music. Surprisingly, despite the dated feel of the picture, the chemistry between Lesley Ann Warren and Christopher Atkins creates some pretty palpable electricity, and their almost single cut, one take love scene is one of the most powerfully erotic couplings you’re liable to find in any movie.

Warren’s straying from her bland husband is given the appropriate gravity by the actress, but her subsequent just-desserts at the hands of a younger woman (Sandra Beall) seem just plain mean-spirited on the part of the moviemakers. While it is perfectly acceptable in mainstream television and movies for men to cheat on their wives, time and time again, the woman seeking passion is vilified by moviemakers one way or another. While it’s fun to watch Warren’s boring school marm suddenly evolve into a vampy hot teacher, it’s downright depressing to see her have to come scampering back to her inattentive (but sure, loving) husband. It’s a conventional plot turn, and in such a short movie, isn’t given the proper emotional weight such an event truly would have on a relationship.

Still, those looking to revisit the “me” decade will enjoy the Bryan Adams classic songs, the teased hair and the ridiculous clothing ensembles!
