Featured Actress: Unknown About Last Night Nipple Girl - Based on a play by David Mamet called Sexual Pervisty in Chicago, About Last Night succeeds better than many would expect given that it was adapted for the screen by Sweetchuck from the Police Academy movies (Tim Kazurinsky). Starring a very young Rob Lowe and a pre-enhanced Demi Moore, the movie chronicles the ups and downs of a relationship that begins with a one-night-stand, blossoms into love and then dissolves into resentment. At the same time, Lowe’s best chum, a winning James Belushi, and Moore’s best girlfriend, Elizabeth Perkins, aren’t sure what to make of their friends’ coupling.
Rife with as many tense as arousing moments, About Last Night is a fairly accurate portrayal of what it’s like to go through that first serious relationship in your early twenties. The first shared apartment, the fights, the sex, the misunderstandings, the communication breakdowns – all are full on display here with truly heartfelt performances from Lowe and Moore anchoring each hill and valley their characters must endure. But while it is a well-acted and, in some spots, a very funny movie, About Last Night will often hit too close to home for people who may not want to remember those times in their own lives they spent living as these characters do. Movies are often considered escapist entertainment, but here audiences see real life through a poignant, yet depressing looking glass.
