The H.E.A.T. is based in a beach fashion boutique in the Westin, a luxury hotel in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, which houses the pulse of the operation - a communication center and their cover. The H.E.A.T. team travels to a host of exotic tropical locales throughout Mexico, the Carribbean and South America on assignment combating injustices and international terrorists.

In Checkmate the two-part premiere of the show, the H.E.A.T. team is sent to Rio de Janeiro to protect an ambassador from assassination. They manage to deflect the attack but the perpetrator escapes and subsequently develops plans to disrupt an anti-terrorist conference held on the H.E.A.T. team's own turf. Checkmate stars series regulars Catherine Oxenberg, Alison Armitage and Holly Floria as well as guest stars Susan Pari, Spice Williams, Wendy Marie Rock and Lauren Herily.
