PURCHASE THE DVD: Candyman: Farewell to the Flesh (1995)

In this second entry in the horror series created by Clive Barker, the Candyman (Tony Todd) does some pruning on the old family tree. We vividly see how he was created and find out that his love for the woman that cost him his life also produced a daughter. When the sweet one starts terrorizing great-great-grandchildren Annie and Ethan (Kelly Rowan and William O'Leary), one of them decides it's time to take him down. This movie was directed by an Oscar winner! Bill Condon would go on to make Gods and Monsters, but in this earlier film his talent is pretty evident as he adds a lot of atmosphrere to a movie than could have been just another cheesy horror flick. Yeah, it has it's cheesy moments, Tony Todd is a good actor, he didn't have to ham it up quite so much, but it's the acting and conviction of leading lady Kelly Rowan that holds this flick together. Because she takes everything seriously, you will too. Definitely worth checking out.
