PURCHASE THE DVD: Daybreak (1993)

When a group of innocent people fall victim to a deadly plague, their tyrannical government quarantines them and offers no other alternative for them but death. A rebel named "Torch" (Cuba Gooding Jr.) sets out to save the ailing victims by heading an aggressive charge in opposition to the government's inhumane tactics. At the same time, he manages to fall in love with a gorgeous fellow comrade, Blue (Moira Kelly).

Remember, this was before the golden age of HBO when most HBO Original Movies were straight-to-cable rejects, which makes this film even more remarkable. What could have been another bad, run of the mill post-apocalyptic thriller was actually a decent, thoughtful movie showcasing one of Cuba Gooding, Jr.'s better performances. it also showcases why Moira Kelly should have been a bigger star.
