PURCHASE THE DVD: Dead 7 (2000)

The miracle of Dead 7 isn’t merely that it is a competent, sometimes rather absorbing no-budget, shot-on-video feature, but rather that its distributor, masters of bad taste Brain Damage Films, had the good sense to release it on their schlock horror label.

Garrett Clancy proves himself to be an efficient screenwriter, capable of getting the viewer to ask questions and then answering the viewers questions with a satisfying conclusion. Additionally, as a director, Clancy keeps the story moving at a fast pace with some excellent camera work and sharp, crisp editing. This is definitely ultra-low-budget work, but there’s skill on display here in all areas including the usual trouble spots: acting and special effects.

Dead 7 is a revenge mystery involving a gang of thugs that dispose of a witness to their brutal crime. The young boy they toss down a well has a sister that’s in league with the bad guys, and over the months, her psychology steadily comes unhinged. Soon, there is gruesome retribution being paid to the thugs, but who is responsible? The answer may not be as obvious as you think. Starring Gina Zachory, Brett Charles and the most excellent Janet Tracy Keijser.
