PURCHASE THE DVD: Life On Mars (2006)

DCI Sam Tyler (John Simm) is hit by a car in the present day and wakes up in 1973. Is he hallucinating, stuck in a coma, dead, or did he travel back in time? This trippy serious works on so many levels that you never really want Sam to wake up (coma seems to be the most logical explaination). What would a modern cop, with his reliance on technology and ethics, do when trapped in the corrupt world of a police squadroom in 1973. While Sam's cold, black and white approach teaches his new colleagues a thing or two, he's got something to learn as well, especially from his new boss, Gene Hunt (Phillip Glenister). The BBC reported earlier this year that there will only be one more series of this show, airing early in 2007, which is a shame since it's one of the few truly original things on television.
