PURCHASE THE DVD: Splendor (1999)

The director who brought you The Doom Generation wrote and directed this comedy about Veronica (Kathleen Robertson) and the two guys she starts dating at the same time (That Thing You Do's Johnathon Schaech and Matt Kesslar). When she can't decide between them all three start living, and sleeping together. But then trouble intrudes on their perfect, weird little life when Vernonica gets knocked up and isn't sure who the father is. Robertson (Scary Movie 2, 'Beverly Hills 90210') is engaging as Veronica and Schaech becomes more interesting as the film rolls along, but I got the feeling that Araki had the idea for the story but wasn't quite sure where to go with it. The first half of the movie is entertaining and interesting, but it loses steam and winds up with a surprisingly sappy ending. Worth watching if you're a Robertson fan, but others might have trouble hanging in there.
