Nude Celebs: Monet Mazur - Shortly after getting bounced from the larger-than-life rock band the Rolling Stones, 27-year-old guitarist Brian Jones (Leo Gregory) ended up at the bottom of his swimming pool. Authorities labeled his death an accident -- but was it? Director Stephen Woolley dares to pose the question, recounting the mercurial musician's last days via a kaleidoscope of flashbacks chronicling a friendship that led to his downward spiral and untimely demise.
By the time I saw this film, I had read so much bad press my expectations were minimal so I wasn't disappointed. I learned nothing at all from this movie, other than a statement on the screen at the end. There is a very interesting story within, but it is that of Frank Thorogood, not Brian Jones. That would have made a better focal point but, honestly, who would care to watch it? The movie is very amateurish, often resembling a series of music videos. The use of White Rabbit to accompany Brian's "Intro to Drugs 101" was especially preposterous -- it might have worked in 1971, but that was a long time ago and we've seen it many, many times since then. There are credibility issues too, especially when you learn at the end that some source materials were written by the characters shown to be better-behaved. I enjoyed the characterizations of the other Rolling Stones. They were much less sensational then they are usually drawn -- a bit more realistic I believe. There is enough good in this movie to make it worth watching, but only if you care about the Rolling Stones story. I do.
