While largely forgettable plot-wise, this Paris-based erotic thriller starring Melanie Griffith and Rachel Leigh Cook is unique in that it portrays the lead male character, (Hugh Dancy) as the sex object – the camera ogling more over his frame than the lovely bodies of Ms. Griffith and Cook. Beyond this fact, it’s a fairly typical love-triangle flick with dangerous overtones as Dancy’s con-man falls for naïve jewelry store clerk Cook. Pulling all the strings, at first, is Griffith as a transporter of illegal art and antiques who has to pay a huge debt. She orders boyfriend Dancy to seduce Cook and get to the vault at the jewelry store, but soon all are in over their head in a tangled web of intrigue. You know when Malcom McDowell shows up that the end isn’t necessarily going to be wine and roses for everyone, and the movie does score extra points for an unconventional denouement.
