Perhaps the biggest surprise in this 2005 action/thriller is that Jet Li can act. Sure, we knew he could kick ass, but show various emotions including meekness and fear? Who knew?
Danny is treated like a dog, literally. He's kept in a cage, and wears a dog collar. When the collar is on, he is completely obedient and subservient, meek and frightened by everyone around him. When the collar comes off, Danny flies into a rage and kills or maims anyone he's told to by his "Uncle Bart". Uncle Bart, not a relative, is a gangster who turns Danny loose on anyone who owes him money, and collections are always good, because Danny is a great dog.
When Danny stumbles upon a blind piano tuner and his daughter, he begins to question his dog existence, and escapes from Uncle Bart. Bart isn't happy to lose his dog, and the hunt begins.
A very cool and different movie, with good acting and a great script. Maybe the best movie I've seen Jet Li in.
