Featured Actress: Ingrid Kogin - Writer/director/actor Eric Schaeffer pulls triple-threat duty on this semi-autiobiographical comedy/drama about a bisexual bachelor engaged to be married to a woman, but who now is getting cold feet as the time to say "I do" approaches. What's worse, his fear of commitment is spreading into a fear of being intimate with his fiancee. In order to solve his bedroom plight, he and his bethrothed attend couples' therapy and, through a series of flashbacks, the tale of Wirey's fears about marriage and sex start to crystalize.
A heartfelt and often very funny comedy, the movie struggles with the flashback/present balance, specifically because Schaeffer's flat, monotonous narration tests the audience's patience. Largely competant acting and an honest screenplay do manage to even the keel on this low-budget production, so those who like romantic comedies will appreciate the movie overall, even if it plays off-kilter. Certainly not your typical Hollywood love story, Wirey Spindell engages audiences by revealing the lead character's deepest inadequacies, something which some will not only be able to laugh at, but also relate to.
