Movie: All That Jazz
Director: Bob Fosse
Critic rating: 5
A thinly veiled autobiography and a masterpiece of cinematic style, All That Jazz is a sly, sexy, funny and ultimately harrowing semi-musical from writer/director/choreographer Bob Fosse. The story of Joe Gideon, a pill-popping, whisky-slugging, womanizing stage choreographer, the movie is elevated to classic status not only by some fantastic performances from Roy Scheider (as Gideon), Jessica Lange, John Lithgow, Ann Reinking and Leland Palmer, but also by some of the most superior editing ever seen in a major Hollywood production. And, as expected, the music is superb.
If you're looking for an excellent way to spend an evening, you'd be hard-pressed to find a more fulfilling cinematic journey than this 4-time Oscar winner.
The movie also stars a good deal of talented actresses including Sandahl Bergman (in her first movie role), < b>Deborah Geffner, KC Townsend, Melanie Hunter, Rita Bennett, Sue Paul, Vicki Frederick and Sue Paul.
