Director: David Cronenberg
Critic rating: 5
A TV executive discovers an underground show called "Videodrome" where people are killed on camera, and is slowly drawn into a hallucinogenic world of living TV sets and programmable people. Dazzling blend of sci-fi suspense and erotic terror from David Cronenberg stars James Woods and, in a Blondie-defying turn, a red-haired Deborah Harry who is fearless as an S&M enthusiast intrigued by the pleasure/pain promise of the underground TV show. While Harry's moments are darkly erotic, the scenes from the "Videodrome" TV program are downright gritty and frightening, despite having plenty of nudity by a couple Unknown Videodrome Victims. On the funnier, sexier side is a little piece of Asian softcore called "Samurai Dreams" that James Woods pitches during a meeting and which is featured in its entirety on the Critereon release of the movie.
